How can you make your died hair color fade faster?

I have died brown hair but have decided to let the dye grow out. I have short hair and my hair dye usually fades instead of showing through my roots. I know the sun can make it brighter, and cutting the dye out is a good idea, but how do you make you hair brighter? It is coming out pretty good so far, but I want it to be blonde for summer.
