How do I find my Indian Heritage?

If you are referring to Native American you will have to look in the Dawes Roll if you are of Cherokee heritage. There are many other Rolls you can dig through for different final rolls of the five civilized tribes. Your ancestors will have to be listed on those rolls to be eligible as a true Native American. Realize, however, that not all Indians chose to be listed and 'hid out' or 'refused citizenship'. The problem with this is proving you descended from an unlisted family is near impossible since Indians weren't known for paper trails. All of their genealogical information was told from generation to generation.
